The University of Portsmouth ตั้งอยู่บริเวณท่าเรืออันเก่าแก่ที่เต็มไปด้วยกลิ่นอายของประวัติศาสตร์อังกฤษ และมีการคมนาคมที่สะดวก อย่าเช่นเรือ ferry รถราง หรือแม้แต้สนามบิน สิ่งที่ขึ้นชื่อในบริเวณมหาวิทยาลัยคือตึก Spinnaker ซึ่งเป็นจุดท่องเที่ยวที่ทุกคนต้องถ่ายภาพที่ระลึกไว้ ด้วยความที่เป็นสถาปัตยกรรมทรงสูงตั้งตระหง่านที่ขอบแผ่นดิน ซึ่งสามารถเห็นได้แม้จะอยู่ในระยะไกล ด้วยความพิเศษที่มหาวิทยาลัยแห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ใกล้ทะเล กีฬายอดนิยมจึงเป็นไปไม่ได้เลยถ้าจะไม่ใช่ทางน้ำ กีฬาที่นักศึกษาส่วนใหญ่ชอบคือ การแล่นเรือ wind surf และกีฬาสุดฮิตของหมู่เกาะอังกฤษ หรือฟุตบอลนั่นเอง
