มหาวิทยาลัย Otago เป็นมหาวิทยาลัยที่แรกในประเทศนิวซีแลนด์ก่อตั้งในปี ค.ศ. 1869 มีชื่อเสียงโด่งดังทั่วโลกทางด้านการสอน การค้นคว้าและไลฟ์สไตล์ของนักศึกษา ด้วยประสบการณ์อันยาวนานจึงทำให้มีนักเรียนกว่า 20,000 คนมาเรียนที่ 4 สถาบันของที่นี่คือที่ Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch และ Dunedin ซึ่งเป็นที่ที่สนใจของนักเรียนในการศึกษาต่อมากที่สุด

เป็นหลักสูตรที่มีเกณฑ์การรับเลือกนักเรียนสูง นักเรียนทุกคนจึงต้องทำการสอบวัดระดับในวันแรกของการเปิดคอร์สและต้องผ่านการสอบถึงสามารถลงเรียนคอร์สนี้ได้ นอกจากนี้นักเรียนที่สามารถทำการสอบได้จะต้องมี:
